Dr. Alan Schneider has a special interest in treating patients with vestibular dysfunction through the use of vestibular therapy. Vestibular therapy is a form of rehabilitation that helps to restore the proper working order of the vestibular system, which is responsible for keeping proper balance and to let the brain know where the body is in space. Improper function of the system can be caused by head trauma (such as a concussion or motor vehicle accident), infections, or can sometimes have no known cause. Dysfunction of the system will often lead to dizziness, vertigo or lightheadedness. Vestibular therapy involves determining which structures are involved in the vestibular system and to restore function to those areas through a combination of manual therapy, specific head movements and at home rehabilitation exercises.
